He was Graduate Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at the Aiken Computation Laboratory of Harvard University and researcher at the Dipartimento di Informatica ed Applicazioni of the Università di Salerno. From november 1992 to october 1994 he was an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the Dipartimento di Matematica of the Università di Catania. Since november 1994 he has been Professor of Computer Science at the Dipartimento di Informatica ed Applicazioni "Renato M. Capocelli" of the Università degli Studi di Salerno.
His research focuses on Cryptography and the Algorithmic Game Theory. In particular, he has been working on zero-knowledge proof, secure computation, security for small devices, and mechanism design and the interplay of Cryptography and Game Theory.
He has been involved in several research projects and grants, both in Italy ("Progetto ed Analisi di Algoritmi" MPI 40%, "Algoritmi e Strutture di Calcolo" MURST 40%, "Algoritmi, Modelli di Calcolo e Strutture Informative" MURST 40%) and outside Italy (Office of Naval Research grant # N00039-88-C-0163, CRESCCO, AEOLUS, ECRYPT, FRONTS, ECRYPTII).
