The Research Training Network (RTN) are part of the programme Improving Human Potential & the Socio-Economic Knowledge base (IMPROVING). within the Fifth Framework Programme 1998-2002 (FP5).

Besides the 15 member states of the EU, the states currently associated with the FP5 are Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Republic of Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia.
